Future isn’t giving anyone time to catch their breath. Barely a week after The Real Me hit streaming platforms, the Atlanta rapper is back with an official video for “Konnichiwa,” one of the album’s most-talked-about tracks and going by the reaction online, the timing couldn’t be better.
The Real Me landed on Friday, July 10, a sprawling 22-track project that adds another chapter to one of the most consistent runs in rap history. Industry estimates already have the album on pace for around 135,000 equivalent album units in its opening week, which would be enough to hand Future his 12th career No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Few artists, in any genre, can say they’ve hit that number that many times.
“Konnichiwa” wasn’t pushed as an official single before the album dropped, but it didn’t need marketing muscle to find its audience. Fans started calling it out as a standout almost as soon as the tracklist went up, and the chatter only grew from there. By the time Future confirmed a video was coming, it felt less like a surprise and more like the internet getting what it asked for.
The visual sticks to the formula that’s made Future one of the most reliable names in rap videos: sharp cinematography, a moody color palette, and Future himself holding every frame without needing much else around him. Nothing about it tries to reinvent his image. It just backs up the record, letting the production and his delivery carry the mood while the visuals do the rest of the work.
It’s also not the only video to come out of this rollout. “Konnichiwa” follows “Radio” and “F**k a Interview,” making it the third official visual pulled from The Real Me in under two weeks. That kind of pace usually means a label is confident in an album’s staying power, and given how The Real Me has performed so far, more videos before the end of summer wouldn’t be a shock.
